WINDOWS

MICROSOFT OFFICE

MY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLSET

I AM NOT A WINDOWS DEVELOPER. I USED TO WORK IN "I.T." IN THE 90'S. WINDOWS WAS THE NEW OPERATING SYSTEM TO ME, IN THE EARLY 90'S. EVERYTHING BEFORE THAT WAS "DOS" BASED. MOST PROGRAMS BEFORE WINDOWS RAN ON THE "DOS" PLATFORM. MOST COMPUTERS SCREENS WERE "MONOCHROME GREEN OR ORANGE". I KNOW THATS FUNNY TO THE YOUTH OUT THERE. THE SCREEN WAS ALWAYS BLACK. YOU HAD TO WRITE BATCH FILES TO CONTROL OPENING PROGRAMS FROM A "HOME MADE MENU".

MY FIRST EXPOSURE TO WINDOWS WAS 3.1X. I HAD TO TRAIN MYSELF. I DID AUTOCAD AND COMPUTER ASSEMBLY, HARWARE AND SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION AND REPAIRS. ALSO DESKTOP SUPPORT FOR A COMPANY CALLED "222-2000" A PHONE OPERATOR SYSTEM IN ATALNTA (BEFORE THE INTERNET- I WAS PART OF THE "HUMAN INTERNET". YOU CALLED "404-222-2000" AND WE FOUND SERVICES FOR YOU AT YOUR REQUEST. LOL.

ACTUAL DESIGN PERFORMANCE:

SINCE THEN I HAVE WORKED IN WINDOWS 3.1X, WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS 2000, WINDOWS XP AND RECENTLY WINDOWS 7. I HAD ACCCESS TO THE OP SYSTEM FILES IN XP. WINDOWS 7, I HAVE NO REAL INSIDE KNOWLEGDE.

I WAS DESKTOP SUPPORT IN THE "DARK AGES", SO I HAD TO TEACH MYSELF THE BASICS OF WINDOWS PROGRAMS, TO SUPPORT OTHERS DOMESTICALLY AND ACROSS THE GLOBE.

I HAVE DONE NETWORKING. BUT AGAIN THE "DARK AGES". AS I MANAGED THE "NOVELL NETWORK", WHEN NO ONE ELSE HAD ANY IDEA AND DID NOT WANT TO HIRE A EXPERT AT COSTS, IF I COULD HANDLE ADMINISTRATION. I ALSO DID WINDOWS NETWORKING FOR THE 96 OLYMPIC GAMES. BUT ALL OF THAT IS NOW "OUT DATED". IT WAS WINDOWS 95.(PLUG AND PLAY)
I WAS NOMINATED AS THE LIASON TO THE "I.T." DEPARTMENT AT SIEMENS FROM MY DEPARTMENT, SINCE MANY THERE IN "I.T." WERE ACTUALLY LEARNING ON THE JOB AT THAT TIME(1995-1997). THEY WERE GIVEN 3 HOURS A DAY TO READ THE BOOK AND STUDY FOR EXAMS. WHILE I WOULD HELP ON CAD INSTALLATIONS AND SOME "IT DESKTOP SUPPORT " ISSUES IF MY HELP WAS REQUESTED.
I WANTED TO PURSUE THE "MSCE" (MICROSOFT CERTIFIED ENGINEER CERTIFICATION) BUT MY DEPT. WOULD NOT PAY FOR ANY TRAINING AND SAID IT WOULD BE OF NO USE TO ME AS A DESIGNER. SO I WATCHED OTHERS BECOME CERTIFIED AT COMPANY EXPENSE. OVER TIME THE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS BECAME MORE STRINGENT AND NO LONGER WORKING IN "I.T." , I HAD NO MEANS TO CONTINUE MY EDUCATION (SELF TAUGHT) TO BECOME CERTIFIED.

OBSERVATION

SO I'M NOT AS ASTUTE IN MICROSOFT OPERATING SYTEMS AS I USED TO BE . ESPECIALLY AFTER WINDOWS XP WHEN THEY CHANGED CONFIGURATIONS. I DID GET A CERTIFICATE IN "WINDOWS NT" AS I NEEDED TO DESIGN A NEW "FAULT DIAGOSTIC COMPUTER" FOR MY DEPARTMENT.

BUT THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH MY LAST SIGNIFICANT USE OF DOS. I HAVE MANAGED TO ADAPT TO WORD, EXCEL, VBA AND VISUAL BASIC AS TIME EVOLVED. BUT SINCE VISUAL BASIC CHANGED TO "VB.NET" AND "VISUAL STUDIO 2017" HAS CHANGED OBJECTS FOR 32 AND 64 BIT SYSTEMS. MY PROGRAMMING SKILLS WILL NEED TO BE "RE-TOOLED", AS OBJECTS, METHODS AND EVENTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED, ALTHOUGH THE FUNDAMENTALS ARE SIMILAR. I AM A LITTLE ABOVE AVERAGE IN PROGRAMMING WINDOWS, BUT I HAVE NOT HAD THE NEED TO EXTENSIVELY PROGRAM AN EXCEL SPREAD SHEET. SO I DEFER TO OTHERS IF THIS IS A NEED.
